Recently, Rupert Nevin, together with junior and leading counsel at 5 Paper Buildings chambers, secured the first UK acquittal for the offence of corporate manslaughter in R v PS & JE Ward Limited. The death of an employee was blamed on the working practices of the company but through careful analysis it was possible to show an alternative cause. The acquittals saved both the business and its owners.
