Does paying privately make a difference?

Does paying privately make a difference?

Well, it depends. If you had asked this question ten years ago the answer would almost certainly have been ‘no’. However, legal aid funding has changed for the worse and paying privately allows you to consider the issues in your case right at the beginning. Perhaps you need a meeting with your solicitor, or witnesses need to be traced. Perhaps you need advice as to the weight of the evidence or to seek counselling to improve your mitigation. All of these things can make a difference and, like it or not, paying privately allows for early preparation.
