This is the twelfth in a series of posts designed to provide you with some information about the team at Old Bailey Solicitors, what they do and why they do it!
Today its the turn of OBS’ brush with royalty, our Queen of Accounts, it’s Louise Tidy.
What is your job title?
Accounts Assistant (aka Queen of Accounts)
How long have you been with Old Bailey Solicitors?
16 years and 5 months
What did you do before joining Old Bailey Solicitors?
Office Manager/Accounts Manager for another firm of criminal solicitors. In fact, I had worked for a couple of other law firms in secretarial roles prior to that.
What made you decide to work for a firm of criminal defence specialists?
I applied for a secretarial post with a law firm when I left College 32 years ago! I have only ever worked in solicitors’ practices.
Describe your typical day at work
I deal with basic bookkeeping tasks such as inputting figures, paying invoices, chasing invoices and raising bills.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Making the books balance.
What do you find most challenging?
New systems introduced by the Legal Aid Agency or the Solicitors Accounts Rules. Keeping up to date with these ever changing rules is important for the firm because the consequences of making even a simple mistake can be severe.
If you could implement one single change to the criminal justice system, what would it be?
In recent years, we have made great strides in reducing the amount of paper we use but there is more we can do and should do in this respect.
