Today its the turn of OBS’s latest star recruit, “Tiger” Tim Cosham

What is your job title?

Solicitor Advocate

How long have you been with Old Bailey Solicitors?

Since 1 April 2017 (no, seriously)

What did you do before joining Old Bailey Solicitors?

Prior to joining Old Bailey Solicitors I worked for another firm of solicitors that specialised in Criminal Defence work. I have now been practising Criminal Law for nearly 10 years. I have always worked in the Surrey area so have a good working knowledge and relationship with the local Courts and Police Stations.

What made you decide to become a criminal defence specialist?

The adversarial nature of criminal defence work was the main attraction and fighting for the people that were unable to fight for themselves. The fact that every day provides a different challenge keeps me on my toes!

Describe your typical day at work

Most days I am in Court which involves arriving at Court to collect the bundle of evidence against my client, going through that evidence with the client, taking their instructions and offering advice on the matter, before conducting the hearing. Following completion of all the Court matters I am either required at the Police Station to assist detained people prior to their interview with the Police or I am in the office completing paperwork and seeing clients in preparation for upcoming hearings.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Being on my feet in Court is the reason I got into this job and is still my favourite part of the job.

What do you find most challenging?

Dealing with clients struggling to overcome addictions and/or mental health issues often present the most challenges but can often be the most rewarding work. Attending the Police Station for interview at 3am is always a struggle!

If you could implement one single change to the criminal justice system, what would it be?

A reverse in the cuts to fees for Legal Aid
