Old Bailey Solicitors client avoids murder conviction
Old Bailey Solicitors’ client avoids murder conviction
An OBS client who faced a murder charge was told he had no case to answer at the close of the prosecution case in Hove last month.
Rod Hayler, the instructed solicitor in the case, was delighted at the result and praised the efforts of the trial advocates Lewis Power QC and Jennifer Gray. “Our client had spent seven months in prison, awaiting this trial. It was clear to his legal team from a very early stage that he wasn’t guilty of murder and eventually the pressure placed on the prosecution has paid off” said Rod.
Murder is perhaps the most serious and emotive criminal charge that one can face. These cases bring a very particular type of pressure. Government figures suggest that, once a suspect is charged, the chances of avoiding a conviction are generally slim. In this case, the entire Defence team worked extremely hard, on the case papers and with the client, to ensure that the correct result was achieved.
