Our Criminal Defence Solicitors: Camilla Rents

Camilla joined Old Bailey Solicitors in 2010, qualified as a solicitor in 2014 and became a Higher Courts Advocate the same year. She has exclusively practised in criminal defence throughout her career and represents clients nationwide in criminal and regulatory investigations, and Crown Court litigation.

Camilla specialises in advising privately funded individuals, professionals, company directors and business owners facing criminal or regulatory investigations. She is particularly recognised for her expertise in fraud, financial crime, money laundering, business crime and cases involving significant reputational or professional risk.

From the earliest stages of an investigation, Camilla provides strategic advice designed not only to address the criminal allegations but also to protect her clients’ careers, businesses, professional registrations and reputations. She regularly advises clients who have been invited to attend interviews under caution by the police, HMRC, the MHRA and other regulatory bodies, often before any formal proceedings have commenced.

A significant part of Camilla’s practice involves defending allegations of:

  • Fraud and dishonesty offences
  • Money laundering
  • Regulatory and business crime
  • Serious violence
  • Sexual offences

Camilla is particularly valued by professional clients who require discreet, pragmatic and commercially focused advice. She understands that for many individuals, the consequences of an investigation extend far beyond the criminal courts and may affect careers, businesses, regulatory authorisations and personal standing. Her approach is therefore both strategic and solution-focused, with an emphasis on early engagement that can often prevent matters from progressing unnecessarily.

Over the years, Camilla has secured numerous successful outcomes for professionals and business people facing allegations that could have had devastating consequences for their careers and reputations. These include persuading investigators to take no further action, making successful representations to prosecutors, and resolving matters without court proceedings wherever possible.

Camilla’s experience is strengthened by her time in practice at a commercial law firm, where she advised individuals, companies and regulated businesses, including those operating within the financial services sector. This commercial insight gives her a detailed understanding of how businesses operate and the wider implications of criminal and regulatory investigations. It also enables her to provide practical, commercially sensible advice in matters involving business crime, fraud, money laundering, and other regulatory matters with a criminal dimension.Alongside her business crime and private client practice, Camilla continues to act in the most serious and complex criminal cases, including allegations of serious violence and sexual offences.

If you, your business or your organisation are under investigation, or if you have been asked to attend an interview under caution by the police or a regulatory body, Camilla can provide discreet, strategic and effective representation from the outset.
