Old Bailey Solicitors attend the Youth Justice Summit

Specialist youth justice lawyer Kim Evans attended the inaugural youth justice summit on Friday, held by the Youth Justice Legal Centre in association with Just For Kids Law.

The summit included keynotes from speakers such as Mr Justice William Davis, the judicial lead for youth justice in England and Wales, and specialist appeals lawyers Ed Fitzgerald QC and Henry Blaxland QC.

Workshops included the latest guidance on representing children charged with sexual offences and those with participation difficulties.

Young people’s lives and futures can be seriously blighted by the wrong outcome

Kim said: “With more and more serious cases now being heard in the Youth Court, it is no longer acceptable that youth cases are used by pupil barristers to cut their teeth on advocacy. Young people’s lives and futures can be seriously blighted by the wrong outcome, and it is a sad fact that many children are diagnosed with mental health issues for the first time in the CJS. It was a privilege to be a part of this inaugural summit and to reaffirm our commitment to youth justice as a specialist practice”.

The lawyers at Old Bailey Solicitors take all youth cases incredibly seriously and we believe that those under the age of 18 should be diverted away from the courtroom wherever possible.  See what some of our clients have been saying about us here
