Old Bailey take on the London to Brighton cycling challenge

Old Bailey Solicitors are partaking in the London to Brighton Bike Ride this September!

Six of our fantastic team will be riding from Clapham Common to Brighton Seafront on 11 September 2022. With just over 125 days to go, some of us need to get going on our training!

This challenging event is all in aid of the Sussex Heart Charity and we are hoping to raise as much money as possible to fund their fantastic work.

The Sussex Heart Charity is a local heart-care charity who support all levels of care for cardiac patients across the county. Their work is very close to home for Jill Joyce and Matt Bishop.

Very sadly, Jill’s brother, Tony, recently passed away aged 50, after suffering a heart attack resulting from heart conditions which had affected him since birth. Tony was born with a hole in his heart and transposition of the great arteries. He had corrective surgery just 18-hours after being born and open-heart surgery aged 2. Tony dedicated his life to helping others, using his medical knowledge to volunteer for St John’s ambulance and was dedicated to improving the care and treatment of people with heart disease. The Old Bailey Solicitors team will be riding in Tony’s memory.

The charity is also very close to home for Matt, who underwent two cardiac operations at the Royal Sussex County Hospital last year, to correct two arrhythmia issues which he suffered from.

The first specialist electrophysiology cardiac theatre and operation in Sussex was funded wholly by the Sussex Heart Charity. Their funding of this theatre allowed Matt to directly access the operations he needed to be fit and well today.

Today the Sussex Heart Charity funds three distinct areas of cardiac care in Sussex.

  • Improve the care, treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from cardiac conditions
  • Support research, new services and staff development/training at Sussex Hospitals
  • Fund community projects, awareness, and life-saving Automated External Defibrillators across Sussex.

Why the London to Brighton Bike Ride?
