OBS client acquitted of witness intimidation

A client of Old Bailey Solicitors has been acquitted, this week, of charges relating to witness intimidation and threatening to take revenge.  The jury returned their not guilty verdicts after a 3 1/2 day trial at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court.

OBS senior advocate, Brian Aldred, conducted the trial.

The defendant suffered from severe learning difficulties such that the court had unusually granted him the assistance of an intermediary for the full duration of trial. He was alleged to have directly threatened a witness and then repeatedly broken his bail conditions by loitering near her home address. The defence team obtained expert evidence to show that the defendant had a limited capacity to understand or abide by the conditions and Brian ultimately persuaded the jury that they could not be sure that he had made the alleged threats or intended to intimidate the witness by walking near to her home.”

This is the second of Lesley Fleming’s three acquittals in serious cases achieved in the last week.  Details of the first can be found here.
